The 8.4.x update to Drupal introduced a lot of headaches to the update process when managing your site dependencies with Composer. In this article I'll run through the issues I faced during this update, and what I ended up doing to resolve them and update Drupal from version 8.3.7 to 8.4.4.

Waterfront Shipping, a subsidiary of Methanex Corporation, is a global marine transportation company specializing in the safe, responsible and reliable transport of bulk chemicals and clean petroleum products.

They had a pretty basic static HTML website that was originally designed in 2008. While they felt the website was generally still serving their needs in terms of structure and information, it needed updates and improvements.

This Drupal module provides a formatter for Taxonomy term reference fields, that allows you to display an icon corresponding to each of the terms. You create taxonomy terms that correspond to your icon classes, minus the prefixes, and the module will spit them out as HTML <i> tags with the correct classes applied.
